The toes knows

My son had surgery on his toes last friday.  Both of his big toes are (were) ingrown.  He was so brave.  We got to the hospital and they put him in a mini hospital gown and a little hat.  At first seeing him like that played with my mind but then after I calmed down he looked kinda cute in the hospital garb.  They gave him some "baby valium" and after it kicked in he was talking about "spongebob apples" and "spaceships on mommys head".  He obeyed every instruction and cuddled with me.  He took his favorite bear with him and we talked to the bear and told the bear to be brave.  Then they wheeled him off to "blow up balloons" aka gas machine.  My heart instantly beat like a drum and tears welled up in my eyes.  I felt so helpless watching him get wheeled away even though it was such a minor procedure.  His father was there.  Always fun.  We keep it good for the kids sake.  So we waited for it to be over with and when the doctor came out I about ran into the recovery room.  Apparently when he woke up from the surgery he requested his mommy.  I felt like a superhero.  To be needed is the best feeling ever.  The doctor had bandaged teddys toes as well.  Ben threw up all over his dad. :) Small satisfaction in that.
